First live christmas beetle I've come across, this one had a badly damaged shell on the other side.
Around lunch time christmas day I caught sight of what looked like a large bird off in the distance flying near some smaller birds. At first it looked like a kite as it did not flap or move at all but was still heading forwards, the wings looked fixed as they are on a plane. Quickly it became clear that it was a real bird, a hawk, I have not seen any around where I live before, at least not that I remember. Of course the closest flyover was the first one when the camera was inside. Below are some of the shots I managed to get before it flew away.
